5 reasons (and more) AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G lens is a good investment for any Nikon DX DSLR camera
My Nikon D5300 has now 2 lenses. The first one is AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II lens and another one is AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G. 35mm f/1.8G lens is really cheap in price but rich in quality.

There are several reasons that I personally believe 35mm f/1.8G is a good investment.
1. The focal length of DX format 35mm prime lens is similar to FX format 50mm prime lens.
The actual focal length of DX lenses is 1.5 times more than FX lenses, which means that 35x1.5=52.5mm.
Why is taking pictures with around 50mm lens important?
There used to be 35mm analog cameras, which came with 50mm prime lens. Many photographers still consider the focal length of 50mm very important, as it is similar to human sight.
2. The price of AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G is one of the cheapest lenses among Nikon DX format lenses.
The price really matters to us all except professionals. This lens costs as much as $200, which is really affordable. 50mm f/1.8G lens is another inexpensive option. It really depends on what you want to take pictures and how you want to enjoy with your Nikon DX camera.

3. f/1.8 means that this lens is very bright.
Unless you want to take outdoor portrait pictures in the nighttime, you never need flash to take pictures with this lens. You can take pictures with less light, which also means that you can record video with this lens with less light, so that this lens is ideal for video.
4. Bokeh photography
50mm is a lot better, if you want to take bokeh photos, but 35mm still can provide you enough opportunity to try bokeh photos. As a beginner, when I want to take a bokeh photo, I try to use Nikon D5300's in-camera macro effect.
5. Zoom lens is unnecessary as long as you move and take shots!
It is because this 35mm prime lens provides no zoom, I need to move around and search for better angle and distance as well as thinking about the composition. I think that this is the most important way to improve skills in photography. If I had a zoom lens....., I should have never thought about it.
There must be more than 5 reasons, but I think these 5 reasons are enough for obtaining a 35mm f/1.8G lens for any Nikon DX DSLR cameras.
